Job DescriptionWounded Warrior Homes is looking for a Development and Volunteer Officer to join our team who has a passion for our veteran community and Wounded Warrior Homes mission; providing transitional housing and reintegrative support services to post 9/11 Veterans. Summary DescriptionThis position oversees fundraising and volunteer efforts and works closely with our Executive Director to ensure fundraising and volunteer efforts fulfill Wounded Warrior Homes mission and program needs. Development and Volunteer Officer will help integrate the development and marketing/communications areas to maximize Wounded Warrior Homes exposure and fundraising opportunities. In addition, fostering and maintaining relationships with key individual, corporate and institutional donors is a major part of the position. It is expected the Development and Volunteer Officer will spend a significant time out of the office in cultivation and solicitation meetings. Reporting RelationshipThis position reports directly to the Executive Director.LocationWounded Warrior Homes, located at 1145 Linda Vista Drive, #104, San Marcos, CA 92078.ResponsibilitiesFundraising, Major gifts and Donor Stewardship 70%

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to design, plan and execute a Development Plan (including major gifts, annual giving and corporate sponsorships) to increase support from the members of The Board of Directors, key contributors and other benefactors in the San Diego Community to broaden the base of support for Wounded Warrior Homes.
    • Create and execute a strategy for cultivating and stewarding a growing base of annual individual donors.
    • Expand and diversify Wounded Warrior Homes donor pipeline to secure funding for existing and new initiatives.
    • Assist the Executive Director and Bookkeeper in the annual budgeting process.
      • Create and implement innovative strategies for securing new and untapped resources, including in-kind donations.
        • Oversee design and production of donor recognition and appreciation communications.
          • Work with the Grant Writer to create annual grant strategies and oversee grants/reporting schedule to ensure timely submissions and reports on all grant funding.
          • Develop solicitations/support material with the intent of attracting new gifts and upgrading gifts from existing donors.
            • Maintain an active list of top donors and prospects and create/pursue a plan to solicit and close major gifts.
            • Schedule a minimum of four donor meetings/visits per week for the ED.
            • Strategically include Board Members and staff members in site meetings with donors.
              • Utilize the breakfast, lunch or coffee approach to build relationships to maximize giving, knowing that the most valuable time spent is either in person or on the phone with these important contacts.
              • Assist with creation and management of a capitol campaign.
              • Assist in development and planning of special projects.

                • Must be willing to play an instrumental role in the fundraising events and other donor-related events throughout the year, including planning, securing sponsors, donation requests, mingling with donors during events and following up.
                • Regularly attend external events that provide the opportunity to network with current and prospective donors.

                • Keep Board up to date with sponsor information and items needed for event.

                  • Manage website, liaison with digital marketing consultants
                  • Assist in development of content for various media for publication, website, social media, events, etc.RequirementsPosition Qualifications
                    • Bachelors degree or higher
                    • Minimum of three years experience in development and demonstrated success securing funds from individuals, foundations and events in San Diego
                    • Website and social media management experience
                    • Exceptional ability to effectively interact with a broad range of constituents required
                    • Must be a skilled public speaker and net-worker
                    • Must project both entrepreneurial zeal and a growth mindset
                    • Must have strong leadership skills to mentor and motivate employees to reach development goals
                    • A high level of organization, attention to detail and accuracy required
                    • Must have exceptional writing and proofreading skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of audiences through various mediums (verbal, print and online)
                    • Demonstrates strong personal initiative and the ability to drive projects through to completion
                    • Must be poised and professional in all scenarios
                    • Must demonstrate compatibility with Wounded Warrior Homes core values
                    • Must be willing to adhere to Covid 19 policies as established by Wounded Warrior Homes which may include being vaccinated as well as wearing a mask
                    • Must be able to lift 20lb or more, have reliable transportation and the ability to work flexible hours
