About This Role: The Quality Inspector II performs mechanical inspection of parts, subassemblies, and finished goods to ensure conformance to specification using precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges or videoscopes. Work Schedule: 3rd Shift - 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM - Sunday - Thursday Essential Job Functions/Tasks: Collects product samples and prepares them for laboratory analysis or testing. Inspects and functionally tests materials, parts, subassemblies, finished goods and packaging for damage, defects, or shortages using quality inspection plans, gauges, and standards charts. Records data of inspections for use with statistical analysis. Communicates with internal customers to exchange information regarding products, materials, and services to support improvements and root-cause analysis. Rejects and isolates products not meeting quality specifications, notifies appropriate team members of discrepancies or shortages, and records non-conformances per internal processes. Counts or estimates quantities of materials, parts and products. Compares product labels, tags, or tickets, shipping manifests, purchase orders, and bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents, quality specifications, and weights. Participates in efforts to improve quality documentation focused on strengthening the overall quality management system. May be required to work other shifts and work overtime as determined by the supervisor. Other Job Functions: Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. It is the responsibility of all Hunter employees to keep themselves and others safe. Employees are required to complete all mandatory safety trainings, know Hunter's safe work practices, use the appropriate personal protective equipment for the job, and immediately report all injuries, near misses and hazardous identifications to a Supervisor or the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Department. Those employees who do not comply with safe work practices may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Employees in management positions have an even greater responsibility that includes modeling safe behavior, ensuring employees on the team are following all safe work practices and completing training, and taking part in injury/illness investigations. A safe workplace must be the goal of everyone at Hunter Industries. Qualifications: Education/Training Required and Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Required and Preferred: Minimum three years as a mechanical inspector, or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) Required and Preferred: KSA #1: Verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to comprehend work instructions. KSA #2: Ability to work within a team environment and demonstrate professional behavior. KSA#3: Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. KSA #4: Ability to perform data entry, view electronic procedures, or complete training courses. KSA #5: Ability to use either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles) KSA #6: Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. KSA #7: Knowledge of math and statistical techniques. Ability to accurately perform intermediate mathematical and statistical calculations and use a weight counting scale. KSA #8: Basic knowledge of control charts preferred. KSA #9: ASQ Certifications - CQT, CQA, or CMI preferred. Physical Demands: Ability to stand, walk, or sit during the shift to perform essential job functions. Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper level work area. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds. Ability to work in a variety of positions (bending, kneeling, crouching) to gain access to areas on machines. Ability to walk a minimum of half a mile when needed to move between buildings where manufacturing is conducted. Ability to repetitively grasp objects with both hands during the scheduled shift. Finger dexterity sufficient to perform fine motor tasks. Vision sufficient to perform essential job functions. Hearing sufficient to hear audible alarms or communicate with individuals in person and by telephone. Work Environment: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors and fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to vibration. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and risk of static electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require Personal Protective Equipment.
