As the Supervisory Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, (Vet Center Director) he/she will be on a multidisciplinary team that is located in a community-based Vet Center that provides veterans with community outreach, counseling, therapy, treatment and direct services and referral to VA and community resources and community education regarding the problems and needs of the veteran. The Vet Center Director conducts interviews and counseling with clients and provides social/psychological assessment and treatment to clients; crisis intervention and both short and long-term services. He/she provides guidance and consultation to other team members conducting interviews, counseling, and therapy. The selectee is responsible for establishing, maintaining and conducting outreach activities with veterans, community and service organizations, business and industry, professionals and the public; The Vet Center Director provides direct social work intervention involving serious and complicated problems frequently encountered by veterans and their families or significant others; Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, communicated through the formal employee performance management system. The selectee performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and public contact work. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance; Resolves informal complaints and grievances. The Vet Center Director develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary; Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters; Reviews and approves or time and leave authorization for all Vet Center staff.

Preferred Experience: Working with combat veterans in providing family counseling services. Working with veterans who were sexually traumatized/harassed while in the military. Conducting psycho-social assessments and the provision of processing psychotherapy for trauma related conditions. Implement treatment plans for combat Veterans/and their families.

Basic Requirements for Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor Supervisor:

Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part.).

Education: Hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling. CACREP defines the date when graduates are considered to have graduated from a CACREP accredited program. Additional information may be obtained from . NOTE: Traditional Rehabilitation counseling programs that are accredited by CACREP do not meet the LPMHC qualification standards as Traditional Rehabilitation counseling differs from Clinical Rehabilitation counseling.

Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-101 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnosis and treatment.

English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, this part.

Grade Determinations for Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor Supervisor for the GS-12: Applicant must have at least 1 year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11). Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Examples of qualifying experience includes but is not limited to: supervising licensed staff and/or graduates; providing treatment to patients; directing the development and implementation of services and

treatment to patients through the administrative supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff.
