Work Schedule: 2nd Shift | 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM | Monday - Friday (Training will be on 1st shift).

About This Role:

The Screw Machinist sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots both muliti-spindle and single spindle screw machines to produce precision metal components. The Screw Machinists also includes maintaining industrial machines and applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, layouts, control plans, and machining procedures.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  1. Independently, sets up and operates multi-spindle and single spindle screw machines. Ensures set-up is to specification on machine to product various types of parts. Installs and adjusts specific tooling as needed. Tests the set up by observing and inspecting first run and sample work piece to ensure machine conforms to specifications.

  2. Measures, examines, and tests completed components to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as gauges.

  3. Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs. Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools. Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, to examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.

  4. Performs appropriate maintenance on industrial machines regularly, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Cleans and lubricates machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, chips, stains, and foreign matter.

  5. Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification and acts in accordance with output. Tracks and records results.

  6. Trains and assists operators with machining operation, techniques and quality and productivity as required.

  7. Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.

  8. Attends all training provided and adheres to all procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

  9. Brings any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management's attention immediately.

  10. Seeks opportunities to improve performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.

  11. Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

  12. Assists in the training of trainees and/or entry level operators as and when needed.

Other Job Functions:

Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Education/Training Required:

High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience Required:

A minimum of 2-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Working experience in manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

KSA#1: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use shop and measuring tools.

KSA#2: Knowledge of multi-spindle and single-spindle machinery and procedures, preferred.

KSA#3: Good verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to comprehend work instructions.

KSA#4: Ability to work within a team environment and demonstrate professional behavior.

KSA#5: Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

KSA#6: Must be able to work on varying shifts as needed although regularly scheduled on 1st shift. Training for the first few months will be on 1st shift.

KSA#7: Excellent attention to detail in completing work tasks.

KSA#8: Has initiative and willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.

KSA#9: Ability through either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).

KSA#10: Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

KSA#11: Experience and use of Shop Mathematics.

KSA#12: Excellent problem-solving skills and detail oriented. Must be able to accurately perform intermediate mathematical and statistical calculations and use a weight counting scale.

KSA#13: Must have strong interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Frequently is required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.

Regularly lift, push, pull and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors and fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require PPE.
