Anticipated Salary: $68,000-$72,000; depending on experience
Total Compensation including Benefits = $95,200-$100,800 annualized*

Summary
Working under the direction of the CSU Shiley Haynes Institute for Palliative Care's Executive Director and Director of Educational Programs, the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator/e-Learning Developer is responsible for the design and revision of Institute curriculum. This includes concept design, development, construction of instructional content for Institute online courses (instructor-led and self-paced), building and managing of course shells. The LMS Administrator ensures all course certificates are up to date and attached to the courses. In Canvas, the LMS Administrator will make updates and revisions to existing courses, carry out final quality checks for courses before they are published, providing links to instructor training, troubleshoot student or faculty LMS issues. The e-Learning Developer also may design materials, such as PowerPoints and handouts, used in face-to-face or virtual curriculum and offerings, including the Institute's National Symposium. The e-Learning Developer works collaboratively with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and the Institute team to apply instructional technology, learning theories, and design principles when developing courses.
The LMS Administrator/ e-Learning Developer must have strong project management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize projects, assignments, and deliverables in order to meet timelines for successful completion. The e-Learning Developer, in collaboration with Institute leadership, designs and provides training on course composition to contracted SMEs and course authors and maintains and upgrades training materials. This position may also oversee work assignments and the quality and quantity of instructional design work performed by project contractors. As the first line of technical assistance to students and instructors, this role will oversee the operational aspects of all self-paced and cohort courses. The incumbent also ensures compliance with national, state, and team standards for quality, evaluation,alignment, ADA, and legal propriety.This position is exempt from FLSA overtime regulations, meaning that completion of specific projects or tasks may require work beyond general office hours. The position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with other departments and team members across the Institute and Extended Learning.
Qualifications
Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field or comparable work experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in online course construction and instructional design using a Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Basic HTML coding knowledge
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Smartbuilder, etc.)
  • Experience with Qualtrics or other survey and data collection tools
  • Strong skills in creative problem solving, effective customer service, time and task management, organization, and attention to detail
  • Strong language skills including spelling, grammar, and application of designated editorial style
  • Strong design and aesthetic sensibility applied to effective layout of text and graphical elements
  • Proficiency with PC/Windows platform and Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    Preferred:

    • Three (3) years of work in a higher or continuing education environment
    • Relevant certificate or certification
    • Experience in Canvas (LMS)
    • Experience taking, creating, or administering online asynchronous training for self-paced and instructor-led training as well as face-to-face courses
    • An understanding of the healthcare sector as it relates to terminology and professional roles and activities

      Responsibilities and Tasks
      LMS Administrator:

      • Build new Cohort and Self-Paced course shells
      • Set all requirements and due dates for Cohort course shells
      • Create registration links for new courses in Catalog
      • Create new and maintain all auto-generated certificates
      • Ensure quality of courses before publishing shells
      • Make any course edits found by students or instructors
      • Maintain the Blueprint master for Cohort courses
      • Build and maintain all surveys in Qualtrics
      • Look for new technologies or partnerships that are being utilized within Canvas or external to the LMS
      • Maintain Instructor Guide sections relevant to the LMS.
      • Add scheduled cohort instructor two (2) weeks prior to course start date
      • Troubleshoot technical and individual system issues
      • Provide technical assistance to students, instructors, and Institute staff
      • Work with Education Operations and Marketing/Client Relations teams to help facilitate group purchases
      • Maintain accurate user records, passwords, and special account information in our central team systems -including vendors, contractors, YouTube account, etc.
      • Work with Webmaster to troubleshoot Canvas issues that are related to CSS

        e-Learning Developer:

        • In collaboration with the Director of Educational Programs, work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and writers to identify target audience's training needs, learning objectives, content delivery, assessments, accompanyingmaterials, and complementary learning approaches to ensure pedagogical best practices and student success in curriculum development/revision.
        • Participate in team brainstorming and strategy meetings to help define goals and direction of course design or offering
        • Using a combination of the Canvas editing tools, basic HTML, and interactivities, build course material into the Canvas learning management system
        • Apply instructional design theories, practice, and methods in designing course appearance and assets
        • Incorporate into courses provisions for compliance with Section 508, ADA, CE, CCM, CME, and other compliance requirements
        • Manage multiple projects simultaneously; keep track of project tasks and status using team project management tools and course folders
        • Manage technical quality of all audio and video assets to ensure quality standards are met according to the SME Guide
        • Advise SMEs or writers to create engaging learning activities and quizzes during curriculum development and revision.
        • Perform course uploads for both instructor-led and self-paced courses and enable assessments and feedback surveys
        • Review, test and perform quality checks on all courses before publishing in the LMS
        • Work with SMEs via email, phone, and in-person to collect information needed to complete modules
        • Maintain the SME Development Guide to ensure quality in the development of new courses
        • Develop job aids, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and tools for developing systems and documentation for instructional design
        • Maintain open and positive relationships with clients
        • Keep up to date on learning tools, e-learning trends, and Canvas technologies

          Supervision
          --- This position may supervise 1-2 student employees and outside freelancers. --- May have responsibility to maintain or arrange new services with outside vendors.
          Latitude and Judgment

          • Is expected to work independently on assigned work, and administrative and support tasks, having the judgmentto accurately assess when the Executive Director should be consulted.
          • Has the authority to take the initiative and resolve routine customer service issues, with the expectation that the Executive Director and/or Director of Educational Programs will be consulted on more serious or unusual issues.
          • Has the potential to have significant impact (positive and negative) on coworkers, CSUSM staff, faculty and leadership, and community perceptions of the Institute based on his/her customer service skills, ability to handledifficult situations, exercise of independent judgment, etc.
          • Will make decisions with budget impact after with consultation with the Executive Director.

            Work Environment

            • The work environment will include normal office conditions; use of monitor, copier/scanner, video conferencing,printers, and other standard office equipment as required.
