Texas Oncology is seeking qualified candidates for an exciting Certified Medical Physicist to join our San Marcos, TX Team! The successful candidate will be part of a physics group consisting of 13 physicists, a medical physics assistant, a physics resident, and 17 dosimetrists covering eight facilities in the Central Texas region. This group supports 9 radiation oncologists in a busy practice setting. The position will primarily provide medical physics coverage for the San Marcos Cancer Center.

With more than 400 physicians and over 170 sites of service Texas Oncology is a pioneer in community-based cancer treatment and is united in healing with US Oncology, one of the country's foremost cancer treatment and research networks. San Marcos is a thriving college town, home of Texas State University, that is conveniently located in Central Texas 30 minutes south of Austin and 45 minutes north of San Antonio, and is just a stone's throw from historic Gruene and New Braunfels. San Marcos is an outdoor enthusiast's dream, boasting over 1200 acres of parkland, including miles of hiking and biking trails and public access river frontage on the San Marcos River. The San Marcos River is spring fed, so it stays a constant 72 degrees year-round, and is perfect for tubing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or even snorkeling. Aside from outdoor attractions, San Marcos has a vibrant art community, a myriad of local breweries and spots for live music, numerous shopping and dining options, and a long and rich history that can be explored in the city's many museums.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include:

  • All aspects of radiation oncology physics, including quality assurance and external beam clinical support.
  • The San Marcos clinic houses a Varian Truebeam with four photon energies, including 10MV FFF, and six electron energies, and busy SBRT and SRS programs.
  • Treatment planning is performed in Eclipse, and the record and verify system is Mosaiq (will be switching to Aria within the next 12 months).
  • There will be opportunities to collaborate with other nearby Texas Oncology clinics, which have busy HDR, TBI, and radiopharmaceutical programs.
  • There will be opportunities to participate in the Texas Oncology Medical Physics Residency Program, which currently employs 6 residents, one of which is in the Central Texas Region, and will be adding another in the Central Texas Region in 2023.

    Qualifications:
    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
    • Master's or PhD degree in Medical physics from a CAMPEP accredited program
    • Graduate from a CAMPEP accredited residency program
    • ABR board certification or in the process of obtaining certification (e.g. new resident graduate)
    • Eligibility for a Texas license
    • Strong organization and oral\written communication skills

Must have the ability to utilize components of the treatment-planning computer including but not limited to the use of keyboards, digitizers, trackball and mouse controls. Must be able to stand for 8 hours; lift 40 pound block to shoulder level; have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures and isodose displays on computer monitor. Additionally, must be able to align treatment field and monitor patient during radiation therapy treatment.
