Director, Business Credit (Los Angeles, CA)
The business credit director at Firefighters First Credit Union
(FFCU) is responsible for all commercial loan underwriting,
processing, portfolio management and credit risk management
activities, and the quality of the commercial loan portfolio. As a
leader, the business credit director sets the department's credit
objectives, delivers services, and manages for results through
his/her team members. The business credit director also ensures
that the team is appropriately staffed, have the necessary training
and resources to successfully perform their work, and meet
individual and organizational objectives. Overall, the business
credit director is responsible for building a high-quality
commercial loan portfolio, while optimizing FFCU business member
access to loan funds, through pro-active planning, development,
implementation, and management of the commercial loan lending
program.Typical Responsibilities:
- Drive the commercial credit operations and objectives to
deliver the strategic vision.
- Train, coach, supervise, and performance manage commercial
credit employees.
- Evaluate and manage the portfolio of new and existing
commercial loans.
- Manage the commercial credit underwriting process to provide
business members with exceptional service while maintaining
compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Assist members with questions about complex commercial credit
matters.
- Review commercial credit policies, processes, and practices on
a consistent basis to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements, prepare responses to audits or examination findings,
and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in developing new commercial credit programs that
provide for the needs of business members.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties and
assignments as needed.
- Travel as needed to attend meetings, conferences, training, and
other work-related events.Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Accounting,
Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years' experience with credit administration and
portfolio management.
- Minimum 3 years' experience supervising or managing employees
in a financial institution.
- Experience structuring commercial and industrial (C & I) loans
and commercial real estate loans.Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience processing credit card requests.
- Experience risk rating loans.
- Experience preparing responses to audits or examination
findings and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to lead, direct, and manage team members across remote
locations to achieve results.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
- Knowledge of and experience with commercial credit, including
loan operations, credit fundamentals, and underwriting
process.
- Knowledge of and experience with the corporate real estate loan
and underwriting process.
- Knowledge of NCUA Part 723, Member Business Loans.
- Knowledge of application of business lending standard operating
policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and
regulations.
- Knowledge of and experience with documenting and tracking all
transactions in compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and
guidelines.
- Knowledge of and experience with standard or typical metrics
associated with managing commercial credit operations.
- Knowledge of and experience with monitoring reports for unusual
transactions and appropriate loan grades, timely submission of
financial statements, borrowing base, compliance certificates, and
compliance with financial covenants.
- Knowledge of business, personal, and insurance products and
services.
- Knowledge of current industry offers, market trends,
competitors, and Credit Union lending and member service policies
and procedures.
- Knowledge of and experience with lending structures and cash
flow analysis. Ability to interpret and apply financial information
(e.g., credit scores, debt, assets, balances, payments, interest
rates, etc.) and perform math functions (e.g., addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios,
etc.).
- Ability to consult, provide member services, and achieve
relationship sales objectives by anticipating and understanding
member's needs and recommending products that will benefit their
short and long-term financial needs.
- Demonstrates analytical thinking, problem solving, decision
making, and judgment by gathering and applying relevant data to
research and resolve issues.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work, handle multiple tasks,
and meet deadlines in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
- Speaks and writes English using the correct vocabulary,
grammar, tone, and organization. Adjusts communication content,
style, and presentation to fit a variety of audiences including
executives, employees, vendors, members, and other external
stakeholders and agencies.
- Experience performing basic office functions such as answering
phones, copying papers, assembling reports, scheduling meetings,
and sending and receiving correspondence.
- Demonstrates the ability to use office software to create
written documents (e.g., MS Word and PowerPoint) and prepare
spreadsheets (e.g., MS Excel), as well as database applications to
enter, maintain, and report data.
- Demonstrates experience and behavior consistent with FFCU's
