- Experience in a public institution of higher education
financial related services area.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of general accounting and auditing
principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to successfully
collaborate with others.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong ability to research, analyze, and problem solve.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, & Outlook.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends during peak
periods.Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or closely related
field.
- Knowledge of Student Business Services office procedures.
- Technical knowledge and competence of ERP systems such as
Banner and SAP.
- Knowledge of State of Texas governmental accounting applicable
to higher education.
- Experience in annual financial reporting in a university
environment.Job Description: Assist in the management of Student
Business Services by providing direction and guidance over staff
and ensuring departmental operations run effectively and in
accordance with federal and state regulations and local policies.
Assists in establishing and enforcing goals and the strategic
planning for SBS and makes recommendations to Director. Performs
complex professional accounting work involving the application of a
comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
and practices to the resolution of a wide variety of problems.Job
Duties:
- Responsible for directly overseeing the accounting, reporting,
tuition adjustments and refund functions for the department.
- Advise and guide staff in performance of duties, being
available to answer questions and help solve student and accounting
problems.
- Provide technical assistance to resolve complex problems for
SBS/FR&A staff and others. Help resolve discrepancies related
to student accounts, departmental deposits, accounting entries,
and/or other SBS related processes.
- Collaborate with other departmental units or agencies to ensure
a good customer experience and implement activities within the SBS
department that eliminate barriers in relations to area
managed.
- Analyze and develop policy and procedures in accordance with
the laws and regulations governing higher ed institutions and
university policy; make recommendations for changes to
policies/procedures, reporting, and accounting system(s).
- Read and interpret laws and regulations of the Texas Education
Code and Texas Administrative Code. Identify change requirements
for management information needs, ensure all areas operate in
compliance.
- Perform research, provide information, generate ad-hoc
analysis, maintain and review statistical measures, aid in
preparing specifications for financial and other reports and make
recommendations based on analysis.
- Special projects, as assigned. Serve as SBS representative in
meetings and on committees.
- May act in absence of Director of Student Business
