needs) DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEW The Boys & Girls Clubs of
Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) CHANGES LIVES through quality
programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, and fun environment.
BGCGSD’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic
success, build good character and responsible citizenship, and make
healthy lifestyle choices. We have been providing a safe, fun, and
positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated
professional staff. Members are involved in age-appropriate
activities based on our three priority outcomes of Academic
Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles. POSITION
OVERVIEW Under the direct supervision of the Branch Manager, the
Group Leader is primarily responsible for leading and directing
elementary and middle school-aged members. In groups of
approximately 10 to 20 youth (depending on the current guidelines),
in various recreational and developmental activities in multiple
areas including, but not limited to, the games room, learning
center, and outdoor area. 1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures programs and activities adhere to current health and safety
protocols. Coordinates assigned program services and cooperative
learning activities for youth that are both fun and instructional;
displays a high level of enthusiasm and commitment for activities.
Effectively plan and lead programs, services, and a variety of
activities for members; promote and stimulates program
participation. Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
Responsible for daily set-up and clean-up of all materials used
during the program. Work in the food service area preparing,
cooking, and cleaning up according to established guidelines.
Supervises members in program area; monitor and supervise the
safety and behavior of members; ensures equipment is in good
condition and members instructed in proper and safe use of
equipment. Assess facility needs and perform janitorial duties or
manual labor as needed – mopping, cleaning tables, trash removal,
disinfecting, painting, playing games, moving equipment, etc.
Recognize and react quickly to problems-arguing, fighting,
horseplay, and stop undesirable activity quickly. Maintains
accurate program attendance records and submits them in a timely
manner. Cultivates positive relationships with members, their
parents and/or guardians, and staff. Regular attendance is
expected. Other duties as assigned. 2. QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18
years of age with High School diploma or GED required with some
college experience; or a combination of knowledge and experience. A
minimum of 48 units of college curriculum or completion of the
Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) required; or a
combination of knowledge and experience. Minimum of one 1 year
experience working directly with school aged youth and knowledge of
youth development is preferred. Ability to plan and implement
quality programs for youth; instruct, coach and direct varied
activities. Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, email,
internet research, social media navigation. Possess skills for
instruction, direction and guidance, with the ability to lead and
control groups of children in various recreational and educational
activities and settings. Respond according to procedure for
emergency and disciplinary situations. Ability to effectively
communicate with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and community
partners displaying tact, maturity and flexibility. Respond
according to procedure for emergency and disciplinary situations.
CPR and First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire. Must have
the ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five
hours each day and complete other essential functions of the
position and other duties as assigned. 3. SAFETY & WELLNESS Ensure
a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all youth, staff, and
visitors by consistently enforcing safety protocols and
organizational policies. Be proactive in identifying and reporting
any safety concerns or maintenance requirements to ensure a safe
working environment for everyone. Participate in safety drills and
contribute to ongoing risk assessment and emergency preparedness
efforts. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Club safety and
wellness policies and procedures across the Club. Special
Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of pre-employment
background check and maintaining a drug free work environment.
Occasional weekends and evenings in support of fundraising events,
committee meetings, and activities. Possess, or be willing to
obtain, a California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B
license certification for transporting Club members as needed. CPR
