Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Mechanical Engineering Position Title Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Mechanical Engineering Job Posting Number 20237NTL Job Location San Marcos College College of Science and Engineering Department/School Ingram School of Engineering Position Description The Ingram School of Engineering of Texas State University has launched a new Mechanical Engineering program that incorporates Industry 4.0 tools and technologies throughout the curriculum to prepare students who can design and develop mechanical and thermal systems that are intelligent, interconnected, and integrated with the virtual world and emerging digital infrastructures. Currently, the program seeks to fill a non-tenure line position of faculty of practice in solid mechanics at the Assistant Professor of Practice or Associate Professor of Practice level to begin Fall 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate solid mechanics laboratories, undergraduate courses in engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, and machine design, and senior-level capstone design courses. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.   • A master's degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Applicant must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) License or be able to obtain a PE License within a period of three years.
  • Demonstrate, by virtue of education and/or design experience, qualifications to teach courses that are primarily design in content.
  • A minimum of 5 years beyond entry level of documented full-time professional practice experience in industry in the field of solid mechanics.
  • Record of professional publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in professional organizations related to mechanical engineering. For the Associate Professor of Practice rank:
    • A master's degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
    • Applicant must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) License or be able to obtain a PE License within a period of three years.
    • Demonstrate, by virtue of education and/or design experience, qualifications to teach courses that are primarily design in content.
    • A minimum of 10 years beyond entry level of documented full-time professional practice experience in industry in the field of solid mechanics of which at least three are in a leadership or upper administrative role.
    • Record of professional publications and presentations.
    • Demonstrated leadership roles in professional organizations related to mechanical engineering. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards. Preferred Qualifications For the Assistant Professor of Practice rank:
      • A doctoral level degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
      • Experience in the application of Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
      • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
      • Prior experience teaching mechanical engineering undergraduate courses. For the Associate Professor of Practice rank:
        • A doctoral level degree in mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
        • Experience in the application of Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
        • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
        • Prior experience as instructor of record teaching mechanical engineering undergraduate courses in engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, or machine design.
        • Experience with ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
