JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal, WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt Middle
SchoolDEPT. /CAMPUS: Assigned Campus DATE REVISED: April
2020PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist the principal in the overall
administration of the instructional program and operations at the
campus level. Coordinate assigned activities and
services.QUALIFICATIONS: Texas Mid-management or other appropriate
Texas certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong
organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Thorough
understanding of school administrative operations Strong focus on
improvement of student academic performance Ability to promote a
safe and orderly learning environment Three years experience as a
classroom teacher.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the
school scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular
activities.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of educational
programs.
- Encourage and support the development of innovative
instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when
appropriate in conjunction with principal.
- Provide appropriate time, resources, and materials to support
staff in accomplishing educational goals.
- Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning
process.
- Serve as principal in the absence of the regular
principal.
- Perform administrative and instructional functions as assigned
by principal.
- Attends ARD meeting and makes decisions based on student
needs.
- Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the campus and deal
with special cases, as necessary, in accordance with district
policies.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural
backgrounds.
- Employ effective interpersonal skills.
- Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work
at designated site on a regular daily basis according to
established work schedule.
- Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus
improvement plans with parents, staff and community members.
- Assist principal in developing, maintaining and using
appropriate systems and records indicators.
- Assess and respond to needs related to job
responsibilities.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct
evaluation conferences with staff.
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new
staff.
- Share supervision and evaluation responsibility for
professional staff with school principal.
- Supervise and evaluate paraprofessionals, clerical staff, and
others when assigned by the principal.
- Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance
and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-up
reports.
- Assist in working with finance department and principal in
compiling annual budget requests based upon documented program
needs.
- Assist in the requisition and coordination of textbooks;
conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipt of
textbooks and related materials.
- Coordinate custodial services and management of the campus;
requisition of supplies; conduct inventories; maintain records; and
verify receipts for such material.
- Conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice
activities.
- Coordinate transportation, cafeteria, and other support
services.
- Implement policies established by federal and state law, State
Board of Education rules, and the local board.
- Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during
non- instructional periods.
- Provide input to develop a student management system that
results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that
student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers
concerning school and student issues.
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the
mission of the school district.
- Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills
appropriate to job assignment.
- Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work
at designated site on a regular daily basis according to
established work schedule.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and
responsible.
- Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit
its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate
activities to meet those identified needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and
parent involvement.
- Manage specifically assigned areas of responsibility
effectively (i.e. textbooks, custodial services, special events,
school calendar, campus maintenance, student attendance, staff
orientation/development, etc.)
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the
principal.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shares supervisory
responsibility for professional staff with school principal.
Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals and clerical
personnel and others when assigned by principals.WORKING
CONDITIONS: Mental Demands:Ability to communicate effectively
(verbal and written); coordinate campus functions; maintain
emotional control under stress. Physical Demands/Environmental
Factors:Occasional district wide travel; occasional prolonged and
irregular hours.School district employees may be required to work
