Job Opportunities at Texas State University Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Computer Science Position Title Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Computer Science Job Posting Number 202108FAC Job Location San Marcos Department Computer Science Position Description Applications are invited for a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor position in the Department of Computer Science to start fall 2021 subject to availability of funds. We are seeking a candidate to complement and enhance our research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer security and networks, data science, high-performance computing, human-computer interactions, and software engineering. Outstanding candidates in other areas will also be considered. Job duties include conducting research that results in refereed publications and external funding, teaching effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, supervising student research, and serving at the department, college, university, and professional levels. The faculty members in the department are very active in research with a view to commercialization and are, or have been, keynote speakers of international conferences, a journal editor-in-chief, an ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest super-regional director, and Distinguished or Senior Members of the Association for Computing Machinery ( ACM ) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers ( IEEE ). The faculty has been successful in securing grants from the National Science Foundation ( NSF ), National Institute of Standards and Technology, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, Facebook, Google, IBM , NVIDIA and Huawei Technologies with annual research expenditures exceeding $1.5 million. The faculty members have won Facebook, Google, and IBM Faculty awards, NSF CAREER awards, and a PECASE award. The department offers the following degree programs: B.S. in computer science, B.A. in computer science, M.S. in computer science, M.A. in computer science, M.S. in software engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in computer science. The B.S. degree program is ABET accredited. The Ph.D. program is the first in Texas to combine the application of computer science practice and theory with entrepreneurial and commercialization skills. The department is committed to excellence in education and research. With a wide range of courses and research opportunities offered by a talented faculty, the department strives for an exceptional student experience. Three students were IBM Master the Mainframe Contest top winners; several students won NSF Graduate Research Fellowship awards; and one student received the CRA outstanding undergraduate researcher award. The department enjoys a friendly atmosphere and is housed in a recently renovated building equipped with the latest technology. The campus is located in the Texas Hill Country and is only 45 minutes from Austin and San Antonio, both of which have international airports and are home to some of the largest IT companies. The cost of living is very reasonable, and the climate is good year around. An earned doctorate in computer science, computer engineering, or closely related field by the start of employment. To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards. Preferred Qualifications Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in research (including potential in obtaining external funding), teaching, and service, as well as have effective oral and written communication. Applicants in the rank of associate professor should have a sustained record of successful external funding and supervision of student research.
